This page covers biological principles of identity construction.

Overview

  • major concept of personality is existence of "I" within mind, identity, which is required for consciousness
  • while mind contains many unique aggregated centers, identity belongs to consciousness, and therefore is a part of mind required for conscious state - neocortex and intercortical thalamus
  • because thalamus is a complex transition center and cannot be origin of identity, real centers of identity are within neocortex
  • identity is manyfold:
    • body identity within insular cortex
    • mental (habits and judgements) identity within orbitofrontal cortex
